IMO Container Weighing Countdown towards July 1st 2016

APM Terminals is engaged in the international transportation industry where trust between supply chain partners in information exchange is critical to the efficiency and safety of physical trade. Inaccurate weight declarations compromise the safety of workers aboard ships and onsure and is a contributing factor in a large proportion of accidents globally.

Inefficient planning of containers due to weight considerations also impact efficiency of operations, impacting vessel efficiency and increasing handlings in supply chain nodes.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued guidance to international supply chain providers to facilitate the application of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements for all 250 million containers entering the global supply chain to have a Verified Gross Mass before being loaded on to the first ocean vessel.

These regulations are expected to enter into force by July 2016
This regulatory requirement represents an opportunity for APM Terminals to provide the market with value adding services to facilitate the application of Verified Gross Mass prior to loading on vessel. APM Terminals is committed to assist our customers to comply with the regulations.
