Go Green at APM Terminals Algeciras

APM Terminals Algeciras declared war on plastic during this year’s Go Green. The company made the commitment to reduce the consumption of plastic as far as possible in the terminal. The event was marked with a day of local beach cleaning by employees, family and friends, to raise awareness about small gestures that can have a great effect on the environment.

Last week environmental sessions for employees in all shifts where held to communicate the Terminal’s commitment to change. For example, exchanging the 100,000 plastic cups that are discarded each year at the terminal, for reusable glass water bottles. The talks also served to address the problem of maritime plastic pollution, the depletion of natural resources, the status of The Ocean Cleanup project, and the commitments made by companies at the Climate Summit.

These environmental sessions also focussed on the small steps we can take to benefit the planet. A beach cleaning day with employees and their families and friends, in partnership with the Estrecho Natural Park and Transpiedra, was held last Saturday in La Aguadilla, in Getares. “This area is affected by microplastics, algae and other waste. The plastic collection will have a favourable effect on our environment, but furthermore, I am convinced that doing this with our people and our families is the best environmental care message we can give to our children and our community,” said Carlos Teixeira, HSSE Site Manager from APM Terminals Algeciras.
