APM Terminals Algeciras advances 33,000 euro Social Action Awards donation due to COVID-19
APM Terminals Algeciras will advance its Social Action Awards to meet the special needs of three non-profit organizations in Campo de Gibraltar with 33,000 euros due to the health crisis of COVID-19. These non-profit organizations are Nuevo Hogar Betania, Banco de Alimentos and Cáritas Parroquial, that are seeing an increase in requests for help due to the exceptional situation we live.
Since the start of the coronavirus crisis, Nuevo Hogar Betania has been treating an average of 950 people daily at its facilities in La Línea de la Concepción and Algeciras, 600 people more than before. For this reason, APM Terminals will donate them 18,000 euros to provide food, clothing, hygiene and cleaning products, pharmacy products and to equip their multipurpose reception and emergency rooms, in addition to paying monthly payments to women and children who are victims of gender violence.
Banco de Alimentos, will receive 9,000 euros to purchase non-perishable products and meet the immediate needs of 76 associations in the eight municipalities of the region, whose users have also increased significantly due to the increase in unemployment due to the cessation of good part of the economic activities that led to the state of alarm.
Caritas Parroquial will distribute the 6,000 euros of aid from APM Terminals so their teams of volunteers from the 16 parishes of Algeciras can attend to the basic needs of the families that request help, which are also increasing due to the consequences of the pandemic.
The Social Action Awards are added to the purchase of material for 3D printing of protective visors in which its terminal employees are collaborating, which are being donated to health personnel and the security forces in their fight against COVID- 19.
