APM Terminals joins collective clean-up removing 200 kilos of waste in one hour in a beach in Algeciras

Works with Green Strategy partners for World Environment Day

APM Terminals Algeciras has concluded Go Green Week 2026 with a tangible impact on the local environment: the collection of 200 kilos of waste in just one hour during a beach clean-up at El Chinarral, as part of a volunteering initiative that combined direct action with environmental awareness.

Under the theme “Healthy ecosystems. Resilient business,” this global Maersk initiative was held this year in collaboration with the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) and companies committed to the port’s Green Strategy, reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainability and the protection of the marine environment.

The programme, held from 3 to 6 June, also featured activities focused on knowledge-sharing and dialogue, including a webinar on the APBA’s carbon footprint, with the participation of Joaquín Sánchez, Environmental Technician at APM Terminals Algeciras; a session by the Andalusian Marine Environment Management Centre (CEGMA) titled “The Strait: an investment in life”; and, on World Environment Day, a keynote by Isabel Moreno, meteorologist and presenter of Spanish tv programme Aquí la Tierra, as well as a roundtable with port community companies, featuring Crisanto Domínguez, Security & Environmental Manager at APM Terminals Algeciras.

“Protecting ecosystems is not only a responsibility—it is a prerequisite for ensuring the resilience of our operations,” said Pablo Segura, Head of HSSE at APM Terminals Algeciras.

Go Green Week is a global Maersk initiative that mobilises teams worldwide to embed sustainability into daily operations, drive local actions with real impact, and strengthen a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
