Aqaba Container Terminal Celebrates Global Safety Day
Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the preferred gateway to the Levant region and beyond, recently executed a comprehensive joint training exercise to commemorate the Global Safety Day. Senior executives, administrative staff, and frontline employees from across the company participated in the annual event, under the slogan, "We Learn and Adapt.”
The day began with an extensive joint public safety and security exercise in collaboration with the Public Security Directorate and the Royal Jordanian Navy and civil defence. The goal behind this was to assess the company's responsiveness to emergencies and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the terminal’s health, security, and environmental management systems. The exercise also aimed to enhance mutual cooperation between ACT and Jordan’s security organizations, allowing the latter to gain greater familiarity with the terminal’s facilities and operations, and hence all parties are empowered with the knowledge and training to immediately handle any major incident on site.
Moreover, ACT participated in various activities that shed light on particular aspects that could possibly be developed to maximize operational accuracy. this included an experiment that involved executives being on the frontline on berths, in order to analyze any possible risks and dangers that are particularly related to traffic, resulting from the transportation of tools and equipment at the terminal. Executives held discussions with truck drivers, during which the participants discussed the causes of accidents and ways to help prevent them. Senior executives got involved in the activities by experiencing the work conditions on the frontline berth, this allowed them to analyze any possible risks and dangers, particularly those related to traffic control, which results from transporting tools and equipment at the terminal. In addition, executives held discussions with truck drivers, during which they discussed the cause of accidents and prevention.
To conclude the event, General Aiman Al Araisheh of the Royal Jordanian Navy said: “These exercises enable all concerned parties to deal with similar incidents. The Public Security Directorate will help continue to help national organizations mitigate any incidents and empower them to take lead in national roles., amongst these organizations is the Aqaba Container Terminal, whom we thank for participating in this high-level exercise.” I would like to thank the Aqaba Container Terminal for participating in this high-level exercise."
