ACT and the Directorate of Education Commence the First Phase of the Safety at Schools Workshop
Earlier this week, the first phase of the Safety and Risk Assessment workshops kicked off at public schools across the governorate of Aqaba. The initiative is a cooperation between Aqaba Container Terminal and the Education Directorate in Aqaba, where ACT trains safety officers and teachers from various schools on safety issues in order to create a safe environment.
During the two-day event, 65 teachers were trained by ACT team members on the duties of a school safety officer, the principles of applying safety standards in educational institutions, identifying and evaluating risks, developing a safety and risk assessment form, introducing the best practices in risk management, and developing emergency response plans. In addition, safety officers and teachers evaluated the facilities at schools, as they play an important role in the safety and risk assessment that needs to be carried out on a regular basis.
CEO of the Aqaba Container Terminal, Soren Jensen, said, “Through this great initiative, we aim to pass ACT’s expertise and knowledge in the field of safety training and risk assessment to safety officers and teachers at public schools in Aqaba. We believe these sessions will enhance the level of safety at schools and minimize risks, in addition to remaining responsible for supporting the local community with our skills and knowledge not only through monetary initiatives.
The second phase will involve rehabilitating a school to serve as a model of this initiative.
