Healthy ecosystems, stronger operations: Go Green Week 2026 in action at Khalifa Bin Salman Port

From 1 to 7 June 2026, Go Green Week brought a clear message to life: healthy ecosystems support resilient business.

At APM Terminals Bahrain, the programme – organised by the Health and Safety team – translated this global focus into practical action at Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), connecting daily operations with long-term environmental performance. Go Green Week is designed to mobilise teams globally to embed environmental excellence into everyday work, strengthen shared ownership and launch local initiatives that deliver real impact.

From global ambition to local action

The activities at KBSP reflected the three core elements of Go Green Week: education, collaboration and collective action.

Across the week, teams engaged directly with the theme through hands-on initiatives:

• Strengthening local ecosystems through tree planting, reinforcing the link between nature and operational resilience
• Taking ownership on the ground with a clean-up drive that improved the port environment while addressing waste at source
• Building awareness through dialogue, with an interactive session on environmental sustainability connecting everyday roles to measurable outcomes
• Improving where it matters most, as teams carried out a Gemba walk at the AM waste area and washing bay to identify practical improvements in waste handling and water use

Each activity reflected a simple principle: environmental performance is built through consistent decisions in day-to-day operations.

Why it matters

The campaign reinforces a critical idea: protecting nature is not separate from business priorities – it enables them. Ecosystems are part of the logistics infrastructure that supports global trade. When these systems remain healthy, operations face fewer disruptions, communities are better protected and long-term reliability improves.

This approach also supports APM Terminals’ commitment to maintaining its licence to operate while reducing environmental impact and contributing to more sustainable supply chains.

On this occasion, Matthew Luckhurst, Managing Director, APM Terminals Bahrain, commented: “Environmental performance is closely linked to how reliably operations run. Go Green Week helps turn that understanding into practical action. By focusing on what can be improved every day, teams continue to strengthen both operational resilience and environmental responsibility.”

Go Green Week also creates space for teams to collaborate, share ideas and build momentum across sites and functions. The message is clear: every action counts, whether through small operational changes or wider initiatives.

At KBSP, the week demonstrated how local actions contribute to a broader ambition – where sustainable practices support stronger operations, safer environments and more resilient supply chains.

تحتفل "ايه بي إم تيرمينالز البحرين" في الفترة من 1 إلى 7 يونيو 2026 بأسبوع البيئة “Go Green” حاملةً رؤية استراتيجية واضحة تضع الاستدامة البيئية من ضمن أولوياتها لدعم الكفاءة التشغيلية في الميناء.

وفي هذا الإطار، قاد فريق الصحة والسلامة في شركة "ايه بي إم تيرمينالز البحرين" جهوداً مميزة لتحويل هذا التوجه العالمي إلى ممارسات ميدانية في ميناء خليفة بن سلمان، بهدف ربط الأنشطة اليومية للميناء بالأهداف البيئية طويلة الأجل. ويسعى هذا البرنامج السنوي إلى تحفيز فرق العمل في الشركة لدمج التميز البيئي في صلب أعمالهم اليومية، وتعميق قيم المسؤولية الاجتماعية تجاه البيئة.

تجسدت هذه المبادرة في حزمة من الأنشطة والمبادرات الميدانية التي شهدها الميناء، حيث انخرطت الكوادر التشغيلية في مشاريع تفاعلية شملت:

التشجير: كخطوة أولى تجاه خلق بيئة خضراء •
إطلاق حملة تنظيف داخل الميناء لتحسين بيئة المرافق ومعالجة المخلفات من نقطة تولدها. •
ترسيخ الثقافة البيئية: عقد جلسات نقاشية تفاعلية لربط المهام الوظيفية اليومية بمخرجات بيئية واضحة وقابلة للقياس. •
التطوير والتحسين المستمر: إجراء جولات تفقدية ميدانية في مناطق الميناء، للوقوف على حلول عملية تضمن ترشيد استهلاك المياه وتحسين إدارة المخلفات. •

وتؤكد هذه الخطوات على مبدأ جوهري: التميز البيئي يبدأ من القرارات والخطوات الصغيرة المتخذة في تفاصيل العمل اليومي.

تأتي هذه الحملة لتؤكد على حقيقة هامة؛ وهي أن حماية البيئة لا تتعارض مع الأولويات التجارية والتشغيلية، بل تعد مُمكّناً أساسياً لها.

فالأنظمة البيئية تشكل جزءاً لا يتجزأ من البنية التحتية اللوجستية التي تعتمد عليها حركة التجارة العالمية، والحفاظ على سلامتها يضمن الحد من الاضطرابات التشغيلية،
