APM Terminals Barcelona plans to obtain more than 5% of its energy consumption from the sun by 2022

APM Terminals Spanish Gateways celebrated a new edition of Go Green this week. The focus of this year’s campaign was Improving the state of the world.  The entire team participated in different activities to raise awareness and knowledge of the actions that are being carried out at a local level to make the port business an increasingly sustainable activity.

APM Terminals Barcelona solar panel project was among these actions. This was the main topic of one of the virtual sessions held. This 2019 initiative will result in 5.12% of the energy currently used by the terminal being supplied by the sun, thanks to the solar panels installed on the roof of the car park. Those that are already installed supply the energy consumed by the terminal's fleet of electric vehicles. In addition, the remaining electricity is sourced from renewable sources, so the terminal's carbon footprint for electricity consumption is neutral.

At APM Terminals Valencia, a change to LED lighting on its cranes has led to a 70% reduction in energy consumption. Sustainability in organisations, a concept that, together with other factors, has a major influence on the decision-making process in organisations, was the subject of another online presentations given to the employees of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways.

And as every little counts towards promoting the change that the planet needs, the teams from Valencia, Barcelona, Castellón and Gijón took home a plant as an environmental task, as a symbol of the small actions that can be carried out to improve the environment. The Portolá Foundation was involved in the delivery and replanting of the plants, in order to contribute to the integration of people with disabilities into the workplace.
