APM Terminals Barcelona continues to strengthen its safety culture on Global Safety Day
The team places prevention at the centre under the motto “We Are Safer Together”
This week, APM Terminals Barcelona once again celebrated Global Safety Day, aligned with the ILO World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Under the motto “We Are Safer Together”, the company placed a strong focus on psychological safety as a key enabler to prevent incidents, improve decision-making and strengthen the reliability of port operations in demanding and constantly changing environments.
“Safety does not depend solely on rules or equipment, but on how we look after one another when work does not go exactly as planned,” said Julián Fernández, Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways. He highlighted that “creating environments where people feel able to speak up, ask questions or stop a job without fear is a shared responsibility and an essential condition for operating safely and sustainably.”
At APM Terminals Barcelona, the day was rolled out across all three shifts, with practical and participatory activities linking learning to safe behaviours. The programme included an opening session with a keynote on emotional management and mental control by Miguel Lozano, one of only ten people worldwide to have free-dived to a depth of 120 metres on a single breath. The day also featured Safety Awards recognising preventive actions, quizzes, activities focused on critical risks, and visits to operational areas, among other initiatives.
