APM Terminals promotes more efficient, resilient and sustainable terminals at SIL Barcelona

APM Terminals Spanish Gateways is taking part in the International Logistics Exhibition – SIL Barcelona 2026, focusing on how investment in infrastructure, operational improvements and sustainability are strengthening the reliability of the logistics chain in a context shaped by global uncertainty.

In Spain, terminals are advancing modernization processes aimed at offering greater capacity, efficiency and predictability to customers and logistics operators. In Barcelona, an investment plan exceeding €156 million is enabling the expansion of operational capacity, the incorporation of new large-scale cranes and the adaptation of facilities to next-generation vessels. In Valencia, the commissioning of new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes is already resulting in more agile operations and the ability to handle large container vessels simultaneously.

“Our goal is to provide customers and partners with a reliable and consistent service that contributes to more resilient supply chains and more predictable port calls, even in demanding environments,” explains Julián Fernández, Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways.

The adaptation of terminals to mega-vessels helps optimize operation times and manage growing volumes with less impact on the overall logistics chain. This approach is supported by continuous improvement methodologies and constant operational monitoring, strengthening the ability to anticipate potential disruptions and helping to maintain service quality.

Sustainability is another key pillar of the strategy. Progress in equipment electrification and in the development of infrastructure for onshore power supply (OPS) is helping to reduce emissions and move towards more efficient operations. Digitalization acts as an additional lever to enhance traceability, planning and predictive management of port operations.

Participation at SIL Barcelona, one of the leading events in the logistics sector, provides an opportunity to share this forward-looking vision with customers and partners, based on more efficient, sustainable terminals that are ready to support the evolution of global trade.
