APM Terminals Callao and MSC Launch the Alpaca Service, the Fastest Asia–Peru Route in South America

With a 23-day transit time, the new direct service from Asia to Peru shortens logistics timelines by up to 15 days.

APM Terminals Callao and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have launched operations of the Alpaca service, the first direct and non-stop transpacific route from Asia to Peru, now the fastest Asia–Peru connection in South America.

With a record transit time of 23 days, a vessel arrives every Wednesday at the Multipurpose North Terminal, operating ships ranging from 7,000 to 12,000 TEUs and strengthening service capacity for Peruvian exporters and importers. Among the vessels, a next-generation LNG-powered ship stood out, completing its inaugural voyage to the Port of Callao this Wednesday.

“This route reduces traditional maritime transit times with Asia by up to 15 days, creating an immediate impact on sectors such as manufacturing, retail, technology and mining, key pillars of the Peruvian economy,” stated Carlos Arias, CEO of APM Terminals Callao. “As operators of the North Terminal of the Port of Callao, we remain committed to raising operational standards at the country’s main port and strengthening its position as a strategic hub in the South Pacific,” Arias added.

For users of platforms such as Shein, Temu, or Amazon, the improvement will be tangible: delivery times from Asia will accelerate and become similar to those on the U.S. West Coast. In addition, the service operates under a B2C import model—business-to-consumer—further enhancing the direct impact these improvements will have on end-customer experience.

The Alpaca service consolidates the Port of Callao as the primary entry point for Asian products into Peru and as a strategic hub in the South Pacific. It reaffirms APM Terminals Callao’s commitment to modernization, efficiency, and competitiveness in the country’s foreign trade.
