APM Terminals Callao received nearly 4,600 vehicles via a direct China–Callao connection in just 25 days
The vessel Grande Florida transported 4,538 vehicles imported by Inchcape in a dedicated operation, with the entire shipment unloaded at Callao’s North Multipurpose Terminal.
The terminal simultaneously handled another vessel carrying 2,600 vehicles, bringing the total to more than 7,000 units and reinforcing its capacity to meet the growth of the automotive industry.
APM Terminals Callao, operator of the North Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Callao, received the vessel Grande Florida carrying 4,538 vehicles from Inchcape directly from China. The vessel completed the direct route to Callao in just 25 days, strengthening Peru’s connectivity with one of the world’s leading automotive markets.
The cargo aboard Grande Florida, operated by shipping line Grimaldi, was destined entirely for the Peruvian market. This reflected the confidence that customers and shipping lines placed in APM Terminals Callao to handle large volumes of automotive cargo with high standards of safety and efficiency.
“Working closely with all stakeholders in the automotive logistics chain and supporting customers from planning through execution were key to ensuring safe, efficient and high-performing operations,” said Stephany Bravo De Rueda, General Cargo Commercial Manager at APM Terminals Callao.
More than 7,000 vehicles handled simultaneously
The arrival of Grande Florida coincided with the handling of the vessel Chronus Leader, which carried 2,600 vehicles. Together, APM Terminals Callao handled more than 7,000 units simultaneously, while continuing to serve its other operations. The port operator handled around 70% of Peru’s roll-on/roll-off cargo, including cars, trucks, buses and machinery.
The arrival of larger shipments, such as the one aboard Grande Florida, highlighted the need for port infrastructure equipped to support market expansion and handle increasingly demanding operations. The automotive sector was expected to grow by 35% that year alone.
APM Terminals Callao strengthened its position as a strategic partner to the automotive industry, supporting its growth with capacity, expertise and logistics solutions that strengthened connectivity with Asia and Peru’s competitiveness.
