The Gijón Container Terminal is a member of the European Commission's Verified Environmental Management scheme, EMAS. Being part of EMAS helps the Terminal optimize its internal processes, achieve legal compliance, reduce environmental impacts, and use resources more efficiently.
EMAS is the ideal complement to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification, which the company achieved in 2009. It is the only environmental management tool requiring the publication of an annual, independently validated environmental statement with detailed core indicators. Full transparency is guaranteed.
Being a member of EMAS not only helps the company minimize our use of precious resources, but also save money and operate more efficiently, through identifying efficiencies. Its use of resources, from paper to energy, are clearly recorded which enables us to implement plans to further improve our environmental performance, and reach environmental goals while coming up with new, more efficient management processes.
