APM Terminals boosts trust talking about safety at Global Safety Day

Spanish Gateways terminals involve truckers in the Global Safety Day celebration, held this year with the slogan 'We make it safe to speak up'

APM Terminals Spanish Gateways joined Global Safety Day again this year with activities at Valencia, Barcelona, Castellón and Gijón terminals. The goal was to encourage its employees to share the best safety procedures, in line with this year's slogan, 'We make it safe to speak up'. Drivers who access the facilities every day to drop-off and pick-up containers were also involved to reinforce good safety practices.

"During previous years the focus of our Global Safety Day was on ‘Fatal 5’, the five most common risks of our activity. However, when incidents occur there is a common element – concentration – which is closely linked to mental health," explained María Fe Peñaranda, HSSQE director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways during the opening ceremony. "That's why the aim of this year's slogan is to make us feel confident to talk about and integrate prevention issues in our activities. We aren’t leaving talking and sharing about safety to chance depending on the circumstances," she added.

During the day, employees were invited to coaching dynamics and yoga sessions, with the aim of helping to improve open communication in a work environment to promote safety, staff wellbeing and the success of the company. In addition, customers visited the Valencia and Barcelona terminals and took part in the day's agenda. To round off the day, the former professional boxer and star of television show big brother, Jero García, gave a motivational talk that was broadcast live from Barcelona to all the company’s facilities.
