APM Terminals Gijón continues to strengthen its safety culture on Global Safety Day

The team places prevention at the centre under the motto “We Are Safer Together”

global safety dayThis week, APM Terminals Gijón celebrated once again Global Safety Day, aligned with the ILO World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Under the motto “We Are Safer Together”, the company placed a strong focus on psychological safety as a key enabler to prevent incidents, improve decision-making and strengthen the reliability of port operations in demanding and constantly changing environments.

“Safety does not depend solely on rules or equipment, but on how we look after one another when work does not go exactly as planned,” said Julián Fernández, Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways. He highlighted that “creating environments where people feel able to speak up, ask questions or stop a job without fear is a shared responsibility and an essential condition for operating safely and sustainably.”

At APM Terminals Gijón, Global Safety Day combined reflection with direct action in the operation. The agenda included a crane rescue drill and visits to critical areas across the terminal to observe, listen and learn on site. All activities aimed to share real-life learnings, address critical risks and strengthen the confidence needed to speak openly about safety in any situation.
