Our terminal
Located in the Lach Huyen port area of Hai Phong City, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) is the largest and most advanced deep‑water container terminal in northern Vietnam. Developed as a modern, purpose‑built facility, the terminal provides direct connectivity between Northern Vietnam and major global trade lanes, including Europe and the Americas.
The terminal was developed by Hateco Group and is operated in partnership with APM Terminals, combining local expertise with international terminal operating best practices. Designed from the outset for safety, efficiency and sustainability, HHIT supports the continued growth of Vietnam’s manufacturing and export economy while offering customers a reliable and high‑performance gateway to global markets.
Strategic location and connectivity
HHIT plays a key role in strengthening the port of Hai Phong as an international maritime gateway. Situated at the Lach Huyen deep‑water port complex, HHIT benefits from favourable natural conditions and direct access to major east–west shipping routes. Its location enables mainline vessels to call directly without tidal restrictions. This reduces transit times and supports efficient import and export flows for northern Vietnam.
Modern infrastructure and terminal capabilities
HHIT comprises two deep‑water container berths with a total quay length of approximately 900 metres. The terminal is capable of accommodating ultra‑large container vessels of up to 18,000 TEU, positioning it among the most capable ports in the region.
The terminal has been developed as a smart and highly automated facility, incorporating advanced terminal operating systems, automated gate processes and modern equipment to support high berth productivity, smooth truck flows and safe operations. From berth to gate, terminal processes are designed to improve reliability, reduce congestion and enhance the overall customer experience.
Safety, sustainability, and innovation
Safety and environmental performance are core priorities at HHIT. The terminal has been designed and developed with a strong focus on safe operations, responsible energy use and continuous improvement through technology and data‑driven processes.
In collaboration with Hateco Group, APM Terminals contributes operational expertise and global best practices in areas including safety management, automation, artificial intelligence, process optimisation and decarbonisation initiatives. These efforts support HHIT’s ambition to be one of the most efficient and sustainable terminals in Vietnam.
