APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas wins international port innovation award
2026 AAPA LATAM-CIP Award for Technology and Innovation recognises the terminal's work in automation, decarbonisation and operational excellence
The distinction recognises an innovation model applied to port operations that brings together automation, decarbonisation and operational excellence, integrated with a culture of continuous improvement, leadership and collaboration with communities to enhance logistics efficiency and strengthen the country’s competitiveness.
This is one of the most important recognitions in the port sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, awarded by the American Association of Port Authorities Latin American Delegation (AAPA LATAM) and the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS).
APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas has been recognised with the 2026 AAPA LATAM–CIP Award for Excellence in the Port Industry, in the Technology and Innovation category, a distinction that recognises models contributing to the development of more efficient, competitive and innovative ports across Latin America.
Building smarter and more sustainable operations
The distinction recognises a vision that APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas has built over the years, focused on developing smarter, safer and more efficient operations by using innovation, automation and advanced technology to strengthen the operational efficiency of the port ecosystem. At the same time, we are working towards more sustainable terminals, where the electrification of operations, the use of renewable energy and the continuous optimisation of our processes contribute to advancing decarbonisation goals and delivering benefits to the community. Investment in infrastructure, technology and training, combined with talent, enables us to strengthen logistics competitiveness and respond to the evolving dynamics of global trade.
“APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas demonstrates that the transformation of the port industry in Mexico and Latin America does not depend on new technologies alone. The real differentiator emerges when automation, decarbonisation and operational excellence are integrated with a culture of continuous improvement, leadership and collaboration with our communities. This recognition validates the path we are taking and the positive regional impact we can generate when innovation, sustainability and people move forward together,” said Beatriz Yera, Managing Director of APM Terminals Mexico.
This recognition also reflects Mexico’s potential to develop world-class logistics infrastructure. The progress achieved in Lázaro Cárdenas is the result of sustained investment, technical capabilities and ongoing coordination with authorities, the port community and the different stakeholders involved in port operations.
Innovation driven by people
“This distinction recognises the talent and commitment of the people who make our operations possible every day. Behind every innovation are teams finding new ways to do things better, with greater safety, efficiency and responsibility. Innovation has real meaning when it strengthens the country’s logistics competitiveness, builds confidence among those who rely on its port infrastructure and contributes to the development of the communities where we are present. That will remain our commitment,” said Beatriz Yera.
Receiving this award comes at a particularly relevant moment for Mexico’s port sector, marked by an increasing focus on strengthening strategic infrastructure, technological modernisation and the country’s logistics integration. Recognitions such as this provide an opportunity to showcase the capabilities Mexico has developed and the potential to continue advancing projects that strengthen national competitiveness.
For APM Terminals Mexico, this recognition also brings a responsibility to continue innovating and collaborating with all stakeholders across the port sector. “Experience shows that when long-term investment, technical expertise and institutional collaboration move in the same direction, it is possible to build world-class infrastructure that creates shared benefits for trade, the economy and the country’s development,” said Beatriz Yera.
The award ceremony will take place during the 2026 AAPA LATAM Conference in Antigua, Guatemala.
