Temporary adjustment of rail capacity
APM Terminals Maasvlakte II is currently in a planned phase of terminal expansion and operational testing. This development is intended to sustainably enhance capacity, reliability, and operational predictability over the medium term.
To implement this development in a controlled and safe manner, the area between the rail and the yard is being temporarily reconfigured. This planned adjustment results in a temporary reduction of available rail capacity of approximately 40% compared to regular operations. This temporary adjustment is expected to remain in place from 1 July 2026 until the end of June 2027.
Rail services will remain available within clearly defined and pre-agreed time slots. The temporary limitation supports investments aimed at strengthening future capacity, reliability, and scalability of the terminal.
The temporary reconfiguration creates space to further develop the terminal step by step and enable future growth, while maintaining reliability for existing volumes. Maintaining the current layout would, in the medium term, pose greater risks to throughput, safety, and operational stability.
The situation is being actively monitored. Regular coordination takes place with customers and rail operators regarding planning, impact, and next steps.
Despite the significant impact on rail capacity, this is a necessary step to ensure that APM Terminals Maasvlakte II can remain a stable, reliable, and future-proof rail partner in the long term.
