Konecranes marks 1,000th AGV milestone at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II
Milestone vehicle symbolises more than a decade of collaboration, innovation and continuous development in automated container handling
Konecranes and APM Terminals Maasvlakte II have marked the official handover of the 1,000th Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) produced by Konecranes. APM Terminals Maasvlakte II was selected as the destination for the milestone vehicle, reflecting the longstanding collaboration between the two organisations and their shared contribution to the development of automated container handling. Representatives from both companies celebrated the occasion at the terminal in Rotterdam on 8 September 2026.
The golden AGV represents an important industrial and technological milestone for Konecranes. It also embodies the two organisations’ shared commitment to safety, reliability and continuous improvement in automated container handling.
When Maasvlakte II was designed, APM Terminals adopted an ambitious terminal concept in which automated and electrified equipment, software and operational processes work together as one integrated system. The implementation of AGV technology at scale became an important part of the new terminal’s automated container-handling concept.
Over the course of their collaboration, the teams from Konecranes and APM Terminals Maasvlakte II have continued to learn, adapt and improve the technology and the processes supporting its use. Today, AGVs form an essential link in the terminal’s operations, transporting containers electrically between the quay and the container yard.
