Expansion update: from plan to practice
Whereas 2024 was all about preparation, with detailed planning and strategic contracts with leading manufacturers, the expansion of APM Terminals Maasvlakte II in 2025 is now really taking shape.
Work is increasingly visible and marks an important next step in our growth.
At the site of the expansion area, civil works are in full swing, you can think of:
- Ground improvement and underground infrastructure
Ground improvement works in the container yard have been completed, as well as the construction of underground infrastructure in the stacks. - Concrete work and ARMG preparations
Work is currently underway to pour concrete beams and preparatory work for the construction of the ARMG rail structure in these stacks. - Electrical and digital connections
The HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) work for laying Medium Voltage connections (cables) to stack areas F4 and F5 has been completed. The casing tubes have been installed and the power and data cables, which are essential for the expansion and the future shore power station, will be pulled from next week. - Concrete plant operational from August 2025
The concrete plant to produce the concrete mix for the paving of the Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) area has been installed at the project site. It is expected to be commissioned in mid-August for paving stack 40 and 41. - Security and access
The ISPS fencing has been successfully reinstalled and the new security office at the site entrance has been commissioned.
In addition, the first cranes and vehicles are arriving and will be built and tested in the coming months. Right now, the new Automatic Terminal Truck (ATT), which you will hear a lot about in the coming period, is already undergoing busy testing. The vehicle is already driving on the terminal and hard work is being done to integrate it with the other parts of the terminal.
