WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria welcomes Hapag-Lloyd, strengthening connectivity for East Nigeria

West Africa Container Terminal (WACT)-APM Terminals Nigeria has welcomed global shipping leader Hapag-Lloyd to Onne Port, marking a significant step toward improving global trade connectivity for East Nigeria. This new service was celebrated at an inaugural event at WACT’s advanced terminal, attended by government officials, industry representatives and senior executives from WACT and Hapag-Lloyd.

The new weekly service by Hapag-Lloyd will directly connect businesses in the region to global markets, offering increased vessel capacity, improved transit times and greater reliability. This partnership highlights WACT’s dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime capabilities and facilitating international commerce.

Frederik Klinke, CEO of APM Terminals Nigeria, emphasised that Hapag-Lloyd’s launch symbolises the deepening global partnership between the companies. “We see tremendous potential in East Nigeria’s market. Our investment of $115 million at WACT reflects this belief, creating greater capacity and more efficient logistics solutions for local trade and economic growth”.

Jeethu Jose, Managing Director of WACT, noted the strategic significance of Hapag-Lloyd's arrival: “This new partnership underscores the growing regional and global trust in WACT. We remain committed to offering best-in-class service, attracting new business opportunities, and supporting Nigeria’s economic expansion.”

Raymond Abdulrahman, Port Manager at Onne, praised the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone that enhances the port’s operational capabilities and reinforces collaboration between industry stakeholders.
