Once operational in 2019, APM Terminals MedPort Tangier will be one of the most technologically advanced terminals in the world. With an investment of more than USD 800 million, the new transhipment terminal, located at the Tanger Med 2 port complex, will have an annual capacity of 3.3 million TEU.
APM Terminals MedPort Tangier will serve as a trans-shipment hub for Maersk Line and its alliance partners, and help improve global supply chain performance by attracting more vessel calls and creating more routing options. APM Terminals MedPort Tangier is ISPS certified.
This new container terminal complements the existing APM Terminals Tangier facility located at the Tanger Med 1 port complex, which started operations in July of 2007. It has an annual capacity of 2.4 million TEU.
Located on the primary East/West shipping route through the Mediterranean Sea, APM Terminals MedPort Tangier provides a natural transhipment location for cargoes moving on vessels to and from Africa from Europe and the Far East. Every year, over 60,000 cargo vessels pass through the Strait of Gibraltar on major liner services linking Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa.
