APM Terminals Pecém achieves record container throughput in 2025

Growth driven by new deep-sea route and increased cargo volumes

APM Terminals Pecém handled 706,524 TEUs in 2025, the highest volume ever recorded in the terminal’s history. The result was driven by the introduction of a new deep-sea route connecting Asia to Pecém and by higher cargo volumes throughout the year.

Growth also reflected the performance of the Northeast fruit harvest and the expansion of cabotage, which grew by 16% over the year, with an 18% increase in inbound volumes and 16% in outbound volumes. Activity intensified in the second half of the year, when exports consistently exceeded the volumes recorded in the previous year.

Cargo handled at the terminal can be divided into two main segments: cargo arriving at Pecém for onward shipment to other Brazilian ports, particularly the Port of Manaus, and cargo originating from or remaining in Ceará and neighbouring states such as Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí and Maranhão. Growth of 15% and 51%, respectively, was recorded in these segments.

Vessel operations followed this trend. In 2025, 517 vessel calls were recorded, an increase of 6.8% compared to the 484 recorded in 2024. Meanwhile, the terminal’s Container Freight Station (CFS) recorded 13,143 services, the highest annual figure in its history, representing growth of 25% year-on-year.

The increase in volumes was accompanied by a 25% rise in ancillary services, including container stuffing and stripping, inspections and other integrated logistics solutions tailored to customers’ needs.

“The 2025 results show a clear shift in cargo flows from July onwards. After a more stable first half, we recorded month-on-month growth in the second half of the year, surpassing the company’s initial projections. Sustained high volumes in the final quarter consolidated the best performance in the terminal’s history,” said Daniel Rose, Managing Director of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém.
