Trade Advisory: Movement of Containers Selected for Customs Scanning at Pipavav Port
Dear Valued Customer,
Warm greetings from APM Terminals Pipavav!
We would like to inform you that the Container Scanning Machine (CSM) at Pipavav Port is presently non-operational and remains under repair. The service provider has identified that a critical component is required for restoration, which needs to be imported from the USA. While the restoration activity is being pursued on priority, the repair timeline is dependent on the availability, import clearance and installation of this component.
This disruption is occurring at a time when the Government and Customs authorities are progressively moving towards implementation of 100% Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) / container scanning of import containers. Pipavav Port remains fully aligned with the Government’s objective of strengthening cargo security and trade compliance; however, in the present situation, the non-availability of the CSM creates an operational constraint that requires close coordination and practical facilitation.
GPPL is actively working with Customs authorities, Railways, Container Train Operators and other stakeholders to limit the impact on cargo movement, rail evacuation, road dispatches and overall terminal fluidity. Customs has been apprised of the situation, and necessary requests have been submitted for operational facilitation during the repair period.
As per the prevailing Customs directions, vessel-wise lists of containers selected for scanning are being submitted to Customs. Upon Customs approval, such containers are permitted to move out of Pipavav Port to their respective ICDs or local destinations by rail or road, in line with the permissions and instructions issued by Customs from time to time.
Customers are advised that cargo evacuation continues subject to Customs approvals and applicable regulatory directions. GPPL is monitoring the situation closely and remains in continuous engagement with the relevant authorities to reduce congestion risk, support rail planning and facilitate smooth cargo clearance and evacuation.
Any further updates, changes in Customs procedure, or confirmed restoration timelines for the CSM will be communicated promptly as soon as they are available.
We appreciate your understanding, cooperation and support during this period.
