Georgian-Origin Copper Concentrate Begins Export Journey to Europe via Poti Port
APM Terminals Poti has successfully handled its first shipment of Georgian-origin copper concentrate, marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing role in regional trade logistics. A total of 6,500 tons of copper concentrate, securely packaged in big bags, was transported by rail to the port and is now being shipped to Europe via general cargo vessels.
The initial operation is part of a broader partnership between APM Terminals Poti and KCB Alliance, an inland container terminal, launched last month with a focus on a long-term strategic alliance, opening the door to more regular shipments and closer cooperation.
“This is more than a single shipment,” says Iain Rawlinson, CCO of APM Terminals Poti. “APM Terminals Poti is fully equipped and ready to serve as a key gateway for transporting not only Georgian but also Central Asian cargo to Europe. We value strong partnerships with our customers and their trust to ensure the safe and timely transportation of their cargo," he adds.
The Poti Port’s infrastructure—including central rail links, warehouse capacity, and efficient cargo handling—has established it as a reliable logistics hub for bulk and containerized exports alike. However, the company's growth ambitions to expand the existing infrastructure with modern equipment remains unchanged and reaffirm Poti Port’s role as a vital link between the Asian and European markets.
