Corporate Social Responsibility

In 2017, APM Terminals Quetzal (APMTQ) signed an agreement with the Municipality of San José, Escuintla to invest US$ 500,000 per year in infrastructure, education, health and productivity projects in the community.

The first major project supported by the agreement was completed in April 2019. Two main streets in the town center (7th and 4th) were rebuilt to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrian traffic.

In June 2019, the total reconstruction of the Miramar School began. he remodelling, which will provide modern facilities and recreational spaces for teachers and students, will positively impact the education of more than 700 children from the town.  The school´s 1,500 m2 renovation, which focused on the computer lab, administrative area, 16 classrooms, and three sanitary modules, was completed in December 2019. APMTQ invested US$ 376,025.48 to improve the conditions for the education of students with quality infrastructure.

Another important initiative has been the involvement of Community Councils for Urban and Rural Development (Consejos Comunitarios de Desarrollo Urbano y Rural) in strategic sessions run by APM Terminals’ Sustainability Team. This will enable them to develop and lead their own projects in the short and long term.
