APM Terminals offers range of professional, secure and reliable end-to-end intermodal transportation solutions to its customers. We continually monitor all intermodal options to ensure you receive the most cost-efficient solution that meets your requirements.
Trucking & Drayage
To guarantee reliability and availability, we either operate and maintain our own fleet of tractor units and trucks with all types of trailers, or have established long-term relationships with reputable and tested trucking companies.
We only use drivers who are trained to the highest standards and understand the business. Using the latest GPS technology, we’re able to provide real time updates on the location of your goods.
- Delivery of containers from the terminal to the customer or customer’s warehouse and vice versa
- Transfer of empty containers (Depot-Customer; Depot-Depot; Customer-Terminal)
- Drayage (port-yard; yard-port; yard-yard)
- Inter-terminal transfers
- Movement of hazardous goods
Customs Bonded Transport
In many countries we are approved to transport to customs bonded inland depots or container freight stations, without passing through customs inspections and administration at the terminal.
This has a number of advantages including easing the administrative burden, speed and reduced cost due to better value off-terminal storage.
APM Terminals recognises the benefits of rail as a fast, cost-effective solution with an improved environmental footprint, and is working hard to improve and increase rail facilities and services at all of its terminals.
In Gothenburg, Sweden for example, in 2019 we launched The Gothenburg Gateway with the promise that a container placed on a freight train anywhere in Sweden can be loaded onto a large ocean-going vessel within 48 hours. In Los Angeles we offer the fastest rail turn time in Southern California and from Mobile, Alabama we provide a cross border service to key Canadian markets.
We’re continually adding new block-train services to meet customer requirements. At APM Terminals Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico for example, unit (block) trains services were introduced in 2018 with direct cross-border connections to Houston, Memphis and Dallas in the United States.
More recently in 2018, APM Terminals Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, added a new rail service to a strategically located Inland Depot in Venlo, close to a key German industrial area. The number of weekly services continues to grow rapidly.
Many of our rail facilities also have their own rail customs inspection facilities. This simplifies the rail cargo customs inspection process by reducing time and streamlining processes within the supply chain.
