A Day Of Empowerment And Appreciation

APM Terminals Tangier and Algeciras celebrate the women that help break down barriers at their terminals.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on 8 March. This year’s theme is #balanceforbetter; a call for action that will truly help build a gender-balanced world, a better world. Actions that would push toward bridging the parity gap.

As part of the company’s Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) week, APM Terminals operations in the West-Med celebrated & supported IWD 2019 by inviting all employees to an all-company meeting, for the first time ever.

During the meeting, the Diversity & Inclusion policy was introduced to both teams in Algeciras and Tangier.  Local D&I initiatives and actions that focus on what has been achieved and what needs to be developed in each terminal were also discussed with the aim of putting a concrete plan in place.

A conversation about inclusion

Algeciras invited the General Secretary of AGI (Asociación de Grandes Industrias), Mrs Pilar Cañete to talk about her experience as a woman and working mom, and the challenges she faced to prove her capabilities and leadership.

In Tangier, the 8th of March was an occasion to look back at all the initiatives the terminal has implemented since 2013, to support other women, in partnership with local NGOs, but also to raise the awareness about the importance of diversity for ensuring the success of our business, and the role we must play to promote diversity.

This year, Tangier will be supporting young girls for better access to education and promoting local female entrepreneurs in partnership with the NGO “Education for all”, which supports access for education in rural areas.
