Savona–Vado is Italy’s most efficient port in CPPI 2025
The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence have released the 2025 Container Port Performance Index, with the Port of Savona–Vado ranked 51st out of more than 400 ports worldwide - the highest-ranked Italian port. It is is also among the top 20 most improved ports globally since 2020, reflecting consistent progress in performance over time.
Within the Savona–Vado port system, Vado Gateway S.p.A. and Reefer Terminal S.p.A. are the only container terminal operators, playing a central role in enabling these flows. The result reflects continued progress in operational efficiency, supported by close coordination across the port community - all logistics partners involved work together throughout berthing operations to maintain reliability and flow while advanced automation, specialised personnel and streamlined processes support smooth vessel handling, with average productivity reaching 28 container moves per hour.
The CPPI is an independent global benchmark that measures how efficiently container ports handle vessels, based on the total time ships spend in port from arrival to departure. The index accounts for vessel size and operational complexity, meaning that faster and more predictable turnaround times lead to stronger performance.
For customers and supply chain partners, this translates into more reliable schedules, smoother cargo flows and greater predictability in planning and delivery. In a context where global trade continues to face disruption, consistent port performance remains a key factor in keeping goods moving.
