A sustainable and reliable direct line between Oslo and APM Terminals Gothenburg

Since February this year, Norway’s leading train operator, CargoNet, has initiated operations at APM Terminals in Gothenburg. 'We perceive APM Terminals as a problem-free terminal, with reliability, flexibility and a great openness to new solutions in focus', says Torstein Wollseth Rohde, Key Account Manager at CargoNet AS.

The inaugural shuttle service between Oslo and APM Terminals in Gothenburg departed on 8th February and is now running every Tuesday and Friday, with a capacity of 48 TEU.

'Many of our customers use the Port of Gothenburg as their primary port and there is an obvious need for a reliable direct line between Oslo and Gothenburg. The goal is to increase the capacity to five departures a week before the end of the year, provided that we can secure fixed volumes', says Torstein Wollseth Rohde, adding:

'The new climate requirements are driving most carriers to choose rail transport, and it's clear that sustainability is a high priority in procurement. This solution is not only environmentally friendly, but also economically beneficial, which further increases its appeal'.

Contributing to Nordic competitiveness

'We're proud to welcome CargoNet to the terminal. With this shuttle service, we're joining forces to create a stronger connection between two important Nordic hubs and thereby contribute to the entire Nordic region’s competitiveness', says Svante Altås, senior salesperson and railway expert at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

A container loaded at the Alnabru terminal in Oslo will arrive at APM Terminals in Gothenburg later that same day. 'Being able to transport goods quickly, sustainably and reliably from Norway to Scandinavia’s largest port, with direct loading onto ships, is a major advantage for our customers', explains Torstein Wollseth Rohde, adding: 'The cooperation with APM Terminals has worked excellently so far, with good dialogue, good conditions for our customers and a well-adjusted timetable.

'There's still some free capacity on the train and thanks to our 'last-mile' solution, companies across Norway can benefit from this shuttle', he concludes.
