New Eimskip Cold Store in Aarhus Strengthens North Atlantic Supply Chain

This summer, Eimskip will open its new 4,500 m² cold-store facility in the Port of Aarhus – a significant upgrade for customers shipping to and from the North Atlantic. The new setup enables consolidation of all handling activities in one location and further strengthens the integration between Eimskip’s logistics operations and APM Terminals Aarhus.

A More Efficient, Consolidated Solution for Customers

Trucks can access the building easily, goods are packed directly inside the cold store, and laden containers are collected from the facility by APM Terminals’ straddle carriers and taken straight to the vessel.

“This is a major improvement in our operational flow. By gathering all chilled and frozen cargo handling in one place, we can utilize container capacity more efficiently and simplify the overall solution for our customers,” says Thomas Breth Clausen, CEO at Eimskip Denmark.

Designed for performance – powered by green energy

The 4,500 m² facility features specially designed temperature-controlled docking systems that maintain a stable cold environment throughout the packing process. This ensures safe, efficient handling of a wider range of food products.

Sustainability is also central: 90–95% of the facility’s power will come from rooftop solar panels, significantly reducing the operation’s environmental footprint.

Stronger Integration with APM Terminals Aarhus

The proximity to APM Terminals’ container yard provides a seamless flow from warehouse to vessel. Containers can be moved directly from Eimskip’s cold store into APM Terminals’ operation, improving capacity utilization and reducing dwell time.

For customers, this translates into faster, more reliable cargo movements from the moment goods enter Eimskip’s warehouse until they depart Aarhus on a North Atlantic service.

“This integrated setup strengthens the full end-to-end chain – from inbound logistics at our warehouse, through the APM Terminals container terminal, and onto the vessels carrying goods to and from the North Atlantic communities,” says Thomas Breth Clausen.

Supporting Vital Supply Lines to and from the North Atlantic

For APM Terminals, the new warehouse is a valuable contribution to a crucial task: Maintaining stable supply lines to the North Atlantic.

“We are proud to play a key role in securing the supply chains that connect the North Atlantic communities with the rest of the world,” says Helle Almind, Commercial Manager at APM Terminals Denmark.

“Eimskip’s new cold store strengthens that responsibility even further. With smoother flows, shorter handover times and a tightly integrated setup, we can support our customers with even greater reliability from warehouse to vessel,” she continues.

Eimskip plays a central role in ensuring reliable connections between Denmark, Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. The new facility enhances the company’s ability to support both inbound and outbound cargo flows for these communities. By consolidating operations and improving capacity utilization, the cold store helps secure efficient, stable and sustainable logistics solutions across the North Atlantic.
