Aqaba Container Terminal installs new lifting machinery
Aqaba Container Terminal announced the arrival of 15 new pieces of advanced lifting and towing equipment that cost JD 1.5 million. The purchase was made to enhance handling efficiency at the port and the supply chain more generally, in order to increase the terminal’s competitiveness in the region.
During the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZA) Nayef Bakhit, said that the introduction of new machinery to ACT will contribute to elevating transport activities in the Gulf of Aqaba. Allowing it to better support local and transit trade and speed up the delivery of goods to their destinations. He praised ACT’s unwavering commitment to develop the Aqaba port’s ability to handle the import and export of goods, while increasing its competitiveness and helping to revive commercial and economic movement in the region.
Commenting on the occasion, CEO of Aqaba Container Terminal, Soren Jensen, said that the new machinery will contribute to decreasing carbon emissions and improve safety at the terminal. Adding that the company is set on reducing its carbon emissions by 70 percent by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2040. He added that the overall number of container trucks at ACT has reached 60, and the number of advanced reach-stackers were 9. The new equipment will allow the port to deliver containers to clients in record-breaking time.
