APM Terminals Bahrain celebrates Bahraini trainees achieving international Vessel Tracking Management System (VTMS) certification
APM Terminals Bahrain, the official operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port, celebrated the graduation of six Bahraini participants from its Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) training programme, marking an important milestone in the development of specialised national capabilities in the maritime sector.
The graduation ceremony followed the successful completion of the programme, which was launched as part of a strategic collaboration between APM Terminals Bahrain and Port and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, with the aim of developing specialised Bahraini capabilities in vessel traffic management and supporting sustainable career pathways for national talent in Bahrain’s maritime sector.
The two-year programme combined theoretical training with practical experience, including an introductory phase within the port’s control tower, specialised training in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ports Academy, and structured on-the-job training at Khalifa Bin Salman Port. The programme focused on equipping participants with the technical knowledge, operational skills and capabilities required to support the safe and efficient management of vessel traffic.
As part of the programme, participants completed an intensive five-week training programme at Abu Dhabi Ports Academy covering key aspects of vessel traffic management and maritime operations, supporting their pathway towards the IALA VTS Operator C0103 certification, in line with internationally recognised standards in the field.
The programme also provided participants with direct practical exposure to the port’s operational environment, allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in real operational settings while strengthening their understanding of maritime safety, vessel traffic monitoring and operational decision-making.
On this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Bader Hood Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, affirmed that investing in national talent is a cornerstone of the Ministry’s strategy to further develop the ports and maritime sector. He commended the commitment and discipline demonstrated by the Bahraini trainees throughout the programme.
His Excellency congratulated the graduates and wished them every success as they progress to the next phase of practical and hands-on training in the workplace. He also encouraged them to apply the technical skills and knowledge they have acquired to contribute to enhancing the safety and efficiency of maritime operations.
The Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs also expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to APM Terminals Bahrain for its valuable cooperation and effective role in facilitating and delivering the programme, as well as to the Labour Fund “Tamkeen” for its continued support of partnerships and initiatives aimed at developing and qualifying Bahraini talent in line with the highest international standards.

استثماراً في الكوادر الوطنية: ايه بي إم تيرمينالز البحرين تكرم متدربيها لحصولهم على شهادة دولية في إدارة حركة السفن (VTMS)
في إطار تعزيز الاستثمار في الكوادر الوطنية، احتفلت شركة "إيه بي إم تيرمينالز البحرين" – المشغل الرسمي لميناء خليفة بن سلمان – بحصول ستة شباب بحرينيين على شهادة دولية في إدارة حركة السفن، بما يعكس التزامها المستمر بتطوير الكفاءات الوطنية ودعم مسيرة التميز في القطاع البحري.
وجاء حفل التخرج عقب استكمال المشاركين لمراحل البرنامج التدريبي، الذي أُطلق في إطار التعاون الاستراتيجي بين ايه بي إم تيرمينالز البحرين وشؤون الموانئ والملاحة البحرية بوزارة المواصلات والاتصالات، بهدف تطوير الكفاءات البحرينية المتخصصة في مجال إدارة حركة السفن، ودعم مسارات مهنية مستدامة للكوادر الوطنية في القطاع البحري في مملكة البحرين.
وامتد البرنامج على مدى عامين، وجمع بين التدريب النظري والخبرة العملية، حيث شمل مرحلة تعريفية في بيئة العمل داخل برج المراقبة بالميناء، إلى جانب تدريب تخصصي بالتعاون مع أكاديمية أبوظبي للموانئ، وتدريب عملي ميداني في ميناء خليفة بن سلمان. وركز البرنامج على تزويد المشاركين بالمعارف الفنية والمهارات التشغيلية والقدرات اللازمة لاتخاذ القرارات التي تدعم سلامة وكفاءة حركة السفن.
وضمن مراحل البرنامج، أكمل المشاركون برنامجاً تدريبياً مكثفاً لمدة خمسة أسابيع في أكاديمية أبوظبي للموانئ، تناول عدداً من الجوانب الأساسية المتعلقة بإدارة حركة السفن والعمليات البحرية، بما يدعم تأهلهم للحصول على شهادة مشغل خدمات حركة السفن IALA VTS Operator C0103، وفقاً للمعايير الدولية المعتمدة في هذا المجال.
كما أتاح البرنامج للمشاركين فرصة اكتساب خبرة عملية مباشرة في بيئة التشغيل بالميناء، وتطبيق المعارف والمهارات التي اكتسبوها في مواقف عملية، إلى جانب تعزيز فهمهم لمتطلبات السلامة البحرية، ومراقبة حركة السفن، واتخاذ القرارات التشغيلية.
وبهذه المناسبة، أكد سعادة السيد بدر هود المحمود، وكيل شؤون الموانئ والملاحة البحرية بوزارة المواصلات والاتصالات أن الاستثمار في الكوادر الوطنية يمثل حجر الزاويه في استراتيجية الوزارة لتطوير قطاع الموانئ والملاحة البحرية، مشيداً بالالتزام والانضباط الذي أظهره المتدربون البحرينيون طوال فترة البرنامج. وهنّأ سعادته الخريجين، متمنياً لهم التوفيق والنجاح في الانتقال إلى المرحلة القادمة من التدريب العملي والتطبيقي في ميدان العمل، وداعياً إياهم إلى تطبيق المهارات والمعارف الفنية التي اكتسبوها للارتقاء بمستوى سلامة وكفاءة العمليات الملاحية.
كما أعرب سعادة وكيل شؤون الموانئ والملاحة البحرية عن خالص شكره وتقديره لشركة أيه بي إم تيرمينالز البحرين على تعاونها المثمر ودورها الفعال في تسهيل وتقديم البرنامج، ولصندوق العمل "تمكين" على دعمه المستمر للشراكات والمبادرات التي تسهم في بناء وتأهيل الكفاءات البحرينية وفق أعلى المعايير الدولية.
