APM Terminals Gothenburg future-proofs to meet new customer needs

The last two years’ supply chain disruptions have been clearly evident at APM Terminals, not only through increased volumes, but also in changing customer needs. APM Terminals Gothenburg continues to invest in capacity-enhancing improvements to support our customers, now and in the future.

More staff for greater flexibility

Before the pandemic broke out, an average of seven out of ten vessels arrived within their pro forma window. Today, around three out of ten vessels arrive on time. At the same time, the need for extra calls has increased.

“In order to be able to meet the demand for flexibility both now and in the long term, we have trained almost a hundred new port workers over the past two years and we will train another twenty or so people after the summer,” says Martin Karlsson, Operational Manager at APM Terminals Nordic.

Increased yard capacity

Growing volumes and supply chains under pressure are causing an increase in the need for yard capacity. In collaboration with our customers, APM Terminals Gothenburg is constantly working to increase and optimise the yard and improve flows through the terminal.

“We can see that customer needs and demands have changed drastically, and we are working intensively to adapt to the new reality and to meet the conditions that we expect to continue in a post-pandemic world,” says Dennis Olesen, MD at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

New, upgraded equipment

To increase capacity and prepare for the future, APM Terminals invested in three new, state-of-the-art, fossil-free straddle carriers at the beginning of the year. Since then, we have also modernised the entire reach stacker fleet and upgraded several of our cranes with the latest technology to increase operational safety and ensure efficient handling.

New digital services

Obtaining a clear picture of the container status in today’s challenging logistics world, while keeping costs down, is not an easy task. At APM Terminals, we are convinced that using modern, standardised and tested application programming interfaces (APIs) is the fastest and most cost-effective way to stay up-to-date.

During the first half of the year, APM Terminals Gothenburg launched new API services that enable you as a customer to retrieve real-time container status data from TermPoint directly to your own internal system. Sound interesting? Don't hesitate to get in touch so we can tell you more.
