Green Gothenburg Gateway now covers Helsingborg, Malmö and Sundsvall

map-jarnvagshubbarAPM Terminals Gothenburg is kicking off 2023 by welcoming rail shuttles from three entirely new destinations – Helsingborg, Malmö and Sundsvall.

We’ve said it before and we’re saying it again – interest in connecting climate-smart rail solutions from all over Sweden to direct shipping from APM Terminals in Gothenburg is enormous, as confirmed by APM Terminals’ rail expert Svante Altås.

"When we started the Green Gothenburg Gateway concept four years ago, we naturally hoped that it would be appreciated by the Swedish business community. But redirecting goods from the nearest port to Sweden’s largest port via rail takes a lot of courage. The fact that we are seeing more and more companies and destinations join the network is proof that the concept is delivering on its promises," he says.

Helsingborg, Malmö and Sundsvall join Green Gothenburg Gateway

Three weeks into the New Year, we are delighted to welcome shuttles from three entirely new destinations, namely Helsingborg, Malmö and Sundsvall. The operator of the shuttle from Helsingborg is GDL Sjöcontainer AB, while the shuttles to Malmö and Sundsvall are managed by First Row Shipping & Logistics AB.

"There have been longstanding discussions about having a rail solution between Helsingborg and APM Terminals in Gothenburg. The demand for such a solution has now increased and this is fully in line with our sustainability strategy," says Markus Ekwall, Department Manager at GDL Sjöcontainer AB. He continues: "It's a great feeling to contribute to bringing about a more efficient, sustainable way of transporting containers to and from Helsingborg. We have high hopes that interest will increase further, so that we can ramp up to having more departures per week."

First Row Shippping & Logistics AB started the first rail shuttle between Piteå and APM Terminals in Gothenburg in the spring of 2021. They have since expanded their number of destinations, the latest of which are Malmö and Sundsvall.

Nikolas Rowland also agrees that there is great interest in transporting goods by rail to the Port of Gothenburg. "The new service is based on a solid contract that extends over many years and the timing is absolutely right. The range of services from APM Terminals in Gothenburg is unbeatable, no other shipping in Sweden comes close. The fact that our customers' top focus is sustainability is driving interest in rail solutions, as they outclass both trucks and feeders in terms of climate gains. It's incredibly positive to be able to receive the new shuttles. I can already say that we have more exciting destinations in the pipeline," he concludes.
