APM Terminals Gothenburg strengthens presence in Sweden – Birna Ödefors appointed new Managing Director

APM Terminals is reinforcing its focus on Sweden by strengthening its local presence in Gothenburg. As part of this development, Birna Ödefors will take up the position of Managing Director of APM Terminals Gothenburg on May 1, 2026.

She succeeds Mikael Gutman, who has led the operation as part of a Nordic cluster since 2022. The change marks a transition toward a stronger national focus, with leadership brought closer to the Swedish market.

“This is an important step in further strengthening our position in Sweden. It allows us to become even more responsive, agile and relevant in a market characterised by a fast pace and significant growth potential,” says Igor van den Essen, Regional Managing Director, Africa and Europe, at APM Terminals.

“We are very proud to welcome Birna. She brings extensive experience from several leading players in the industry and combines a strong strategic perspective with deep knowledge of the Swedish market. This makes her the right person to lead the next phase of our development in Gothenburg”, he adds.

Birna Ödefors joins APM Terminals from A.P. Moller – Maersk, where she most recently served as Area Managing Director, Nordics. She has previously held senior leadership positions at MSC, CMA CGM, Panalpina, Elof Hansson and Samskip.

“I look forward to building on the solid foundation established through the Nordic collaboration. My ambition is to work together with the organization to develop an even more efficient, reliable and customer-focused operation in Gothenburg,” says Birna Ödefors.

“I see great potential in Gothenburg and in Sweden as a market, where APM Terminals plays a key role in strengthening supply chain performance and creating even better conditions for our customers, industry and society at large,” she adds.

Mikael Gutman will continue his work within APM Terminals as Managing Director, with responsibility for the Danish market.
