Kalundborg Havn og APM Terminals intensiverer samarbejdet om bæredygtig containerlogistik og styrker Kalundborgs position som centralt knudepunkt for godsstrømme til og fra Sjælland.

Kalundborg Havn og APM Terminals er klar til næste fase i udviklingen af Green Zealand Gateway – det fælles projekt, der skal skabe Nordens første CO2-neutrale containerterminal og desuden gøre Kalundborg til Sjællands største og mest effektive containerhavn.

Et stærkt knudepunkt for gods til og fra Sjælland

Kalundborg Havn er Sjællands eneste offentlige dybvandshavn med kapacitet til at modtage store containerskibe, og havnen spiller i dag en vigtig rolle i de nationale og internationale forsyningskæder. Kombinationen af moderne havneinfrastruktur, effektiv terminaldrift og tæt adgang til industrien på Sjælland gør Kalundborg til et attraktivt logistikknudepunkt for både import og eksport.

Samtidig bidrager placeringen uden for hovedstadsområdet til at skabe mere robuste og sammenhængende transportløsninger, hvor gods kan flyttes tættere på destinationerne og med mindre belastning af de mest trafikerede områder omkring København.

“Green Zealand Gateway handler om mere end havnedrift. Det handler om at skabe fremtidens bæredygtige forsyningskæder og tilbyde kunderne effektive løsninger med lavere klimaaftryk. Sammen med Kalundborg Havn har vi skabt et stærkt fundament, og nu er vi klar til næste skridt i udviklingen,” siger Mikael Gutman, CEO i APM Terminals Denmark.

Grønne investeringer med konkrete resultater

Under Green Zealand Gateway har Kalundborg Havn og APM Terminals blandt andet elektrificeret containerkraner og terminaludstyr, så de i dag kører på strøm fra vedvarende energikilder, samt investeret i mere energieffektive operationer på containerterminalen.

“Vi har gennem flere år investeret målrettet i elektrificering og optimering af driften, og vi kan allerede dokumentere en mærkbar effekt af vores investeringer. Green Zealand Gateway viser, hvordan et tæt samarbejde mellem havn og terminaloperatør kan skabe konkrete resultater – både for kunderne, forsyningssikkerheden og den grønne omstilling,” siger Bent Rasmussen, direktør i Kalundborg Havn.

Containerterminalen i Kalundborg har opnået den højeste kranproduktivitet blandt APM Terminals’ terminaler med mobilkraner, ligesom terminalen har nogle af de hurtigste håndteringstider i det globale netværk med omtrent 10 minutters terminaltid fra lastbilerne kommer ind på området, til de kører ud igen.

Klar til næste udviklingsfase

Næste fase af Green Zealand Gateway er nu klar til at blive igangsat. Udviklingen omfatter blandt andet opførelsen af en ny CO2-neutral administrationsbygning til APM Terminals Kalundborg, etableringen af en ladestation til tungvognskøretøjer samt arbejdet med at tiltrække flere containerrederier til Kalundborg.

Ambitionen er fast: At være Sjællands største containerhavn, den foretrukne terminal for godsstrømme til og fra Sjælland og et kommercielt førstevalg for sjællandske virksomheder.

Parterne markerer samtidig femåret for etableringen af Yderhavnen og containerterminalen den 3. juni – en milepæl, der understreger, hvor markant området har udviklet sig på få år. Nu rettes blikket mod næste skridt, hvor yderligere elektrificering, styrkede logistiske forbindelser og udbygning af terminalens kapacitet skal være med til at løfte Kalundborgs position på det globale marked yderligere.

Med fortsatte investeringer og et tæt offentlig-privat samarbejde står Kalundborg stærkt positioneret til at udbygge sin rolle som et moderne og mere klimavenligt knudepunkt for godsstrømme til og fra Sjælland. Dermed er Green Zealand Gateway klar til næste udviklingsfase med ambitionen om at kombinere høj effektivitet, grøn omstilling og international konkurrencekraft.

Green Zealand Gateway ready for the next development phase

Kalundborg Port and APM Terminals are intensifying their collaboration on sustainable container logistics, strengthening Kalundborg’s position as a key hub for cargo flows to and from Zealand.
 
Kalundborg Port and APM Terminals are now ready to move into the next phase of the Green Zealand Gateway development – a joint project aimed at creating the Nordic region’s first CO₂-neutral container terminal, while also positioning Kalundborg as Zealand’s largest and most efficient container port.

A strong hub for cargo flows to and from Zealand

Kalundborg Port is Zealand’s only public deep-water port with the capacity to receive large container vessels, and it already plays an important role in both national and international supply chains. The combination of modern port infrastructure, efficient terminal operations and close proximity to industry across Zealand makes Kalundborg an attractive logistics hub for both imports and exports.

At the same time, its location outside the Greater Copenhagen area supports more resilient and well-connected transport solutions, enabling goods to move closer to their destinations while reducing pressure on heavily trafficked areas around the capital.

“Green Zealand Gateway is about more than port operations. It is about building the sustainable supply chains of the future and offering customers efficient solutions with a lower carbon footprint. Together with Kalundborg Port, we have built a strong foundation – and we are now ready for the next step in the development,”

Green investments delivering tangible results

As part of Green Zealand Gateway, Kalundborg Port and APM Terminals have, among other initiatives, electrified container cranes and terminal equipment, which now operate on electricity from renewable energy sources. They have also invested in more energy-efficient terminal operations.

“Over the past several years, we have made targeted investments in electrification and operational optimisation, and we can already demonstrate a clear impact from these efforts. Green Zealand Gateway shows how close collaboration between port and terminal operator can deliver concrete results – for customers, security of supply and the green transition,”
says Bent Rasmussen, Director of Kalundborg Port.

The container terminal in Kalundborg has achieved the highest crane productivity among APM Terminals’ mobile crane terminals. It also ranks among the fastest in the global network, with an average truck turnaround time of approximately 10 minutes from entry to exit.

Ready for the next development phase

The next phase of Green Zealand Gateway is now ready to be launched. This phase includes, among other initiatives, the construction of a new CO₂-neutral administration building for APM Terminals Kalundborg, the establishment of a charging station for heavy goods vehicles, and efforts to attract more container shipping lines to Kalundborg.

The ambition remains clear: to become Zealand’s largest container port, the preferred terminal for cargo flows to and from Zealand, and the commercial first choice for businesses across the region.

At the same time, the partners will mark the fifth anniversary of the Outer Port and container terminal on 3 June – a milestone highlighting the significant development of the area in just a few years. Focus is now shifting to the next phase, where further electrification, stronger logistics connections and expanded terminal capacity will help strengthen Kalundborg’s position in the global market.

With continued investment and strong public-private collaboration, Kalundborg is well positioned to further develop its role as a modern and more climate-friendly hub for cargo flows to and from Zealand. Green Zealand Gateway is therefore entering its next development phase, with the ambition of combining high efficiency, green transition and international competitiveness.
