Volunteers from Limón joined efforts to clean Moín Beach of waste
More than 200 volunteers participated in this activity.
This Saturday, APM Terminals carried out a successful cleaning day in Moín Beach, together with volunteers and organizations that work for the environment in the Caribbean province.
The event, which is part of the company's commitment to the environment and the protection of marine ecosystems, succeeded in removing various types of waste from the beach and sorting them for recycling and treatment. It also aimed to reduce coastal pollution and protect marine life, especially the turtles that come to nest at Moín beach, and to promote environmental awareness in the Limón community.
This initiative is part of APM Terminals Moin's Sea Turtle Conservation program and its participation in the Ecological Blue Flag program.
The collection of materials was made in the morning hours of Saturday, and in which more than 200 volunteers participated, including representatives of NGOs, schools, public and private institutions, including the Municipality of Limón, EBI, UCR, Colegio Diurno de Limón, Tierra de Tigres, Grupo Mutual, Limón Grow, Activo 20-30, RECOPE, Cahuita Turtle Rescue, Leones del Caribe and ASADA Río Blanco, which demonstrated the collective effort in favor of the environment.
Also, it counted with the participation of authorities such as the Public Force, the OIJ, the Coast Guard and the Municipality of Limón, who ensured order and security during the collection in addition to their participation with volunteers.
Working hand in hand with volunteers, authorities and organizations motivates us to continue promoting initiatives that generate a positive impact on our environment,” said Krizia Canton, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator of APM Terminals Moín.
During the day, solid waste such as plastics, cans, glass and other polluting materials were collected. All waste was sorted for recycling, thanks to the support of EBI and the Integrated Solid Waste Management Committee (GIRS), led by the Municipality of Limón.
For this activity, APM Terminals Moín provided the necessary implements for cleaning: gloves, bags and tools, in addition to providing hydration and refreshments to volunteers.
“For us it is a pillar to work hard in cleaning the beaches of the Limón town. This work is very important to maintain the conditions of accessible, safe and clean beaches. We cannot do this alone, as long as there are actors such as APM Terminals, with whom we can work this type of actions we will be supporting”, added Juan Carlos Barrantes, environmental manager of the Municipality of Limón.
In the last three editions of this environmental initiative, approximately 3 tons of waste have been collected, and the massive participation had a positive impact on pollution reduction and public awareness.
APM Terminals Moín will continue to promote similar actions throughout the year together with the GIRS Committee and other entities committed to the conservation of Limón's beaches.
“Beyond today's cleanup, we seek to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural resources. This cleanup day reaffirms our commitment to the protection of marine ecosystems and the community of Limón,” said Valeria Quesada, environmental coordinator of APM Terminals Moín.
