Moín Container Terminal Supports Communities Affected by Heavy Rains in Valle La Estrella and Pandora
Heavy rainfall recorded in recent days has impacted several communities in Valle La Estrella and Pandora, in Limón, where dozens of families are facing difficulties due to flooding, limited access, and challenges related to potable water supply.
As part of the emergency response efforts, the Moín Container Terminal (MCT) delivered humanitarian aid in coordination with the Municipal Emergency Commission of the Municipality of Limón, with the aim of supporting the immediate needs of communities affected by weather conditions.
The assistance included 100 gallons of water, first aid kits, non-perishable food, diapers, flashlights, as well as dog and cat food. These supplies will be distributed through emergency teams and local authorities to support families with the greatest needs.
The rains associated with Tropical Wave #3 caused rivers to overflow and affected various roads and routes in the area, prompting the activation of response and monitoring efforts by emergency committees and response teams.
“Beyond our operations, we maintain an ongoing commitment to the communities of Limón, especially to those currently facing the impacts of heavy rains. Emergency response requires collective effort. That is why we are working hand in hand with the Municipal Emergency Commission to channel aid to the affected communities,” said Katherine López, MCT’s Head of Occupational Health and Environment.
Coordinated Efforts
This support is part of MCT’s ongoing community engagement and outreach initiatives in the province, particularly during times when weather conditions negatively impact nearby communities.
In addition to damages to homes and roads, the rains have also caused significant disruptions to the supply of potable water, affecting more than 20,000 people in Valle La Estrella. This situation has kept local authorities on alert in recent days.
Commitment to Limón
MCT reiterates its willingness to continue collaborating with local authorities and community organizations in emergency response efforts, as well as in initiatives that contribute to the well-being and resilience of Caribbean communities.
“We want communities to know they are not alone. From the Moín Container Terminal, we will continue supporting initiatives that contribute to the well-being of families in Limón. Our commitment to the Caribbean also means being present in complex situations, working alongside authorities and communities to provide timely support,” added Krizia Cantón, MCT’s Social Responsibility Coordinator.
MCT will remain attentive to the needs identified by the Municipal Emergency Commission of Limón, in order to continue supporting response and assistance efforts for communities affected by heavy rains across the province.
