Empowering Women, Stitch by Stitch
In Punade village, leadership looks refreshingly different. The Gram Panchayat—traditionally held by men—is led by a woman who believes deeply in one thing: when women rise, the whole community rises with them. Her vision aligns powerfully with ours at Gateway Terminals India (APM Terminals Mumbai), where we are committed to creating opportunities that uplift people and strengthen the communities around us.
As part of this shared purpose, GTI has launched Project SAHYOG, a new CSR initiative designed to equip women in nearby villages with skills that enable financial independence and long‑term confidence. In partnership with Niramaya Health Foundation, a not‑for‑profit organization with 25 years of grassroots experience, we have begun a structured tailoring training program for women in Punade and surrounding areas of the port.
The first batch began on 12th December, with 20 women joining the program. Over the next two months, they will attend weekly sessions at the Punade Gram Panchayat office—an inspiring space made even more meaningful because it is led by a woman who champions their growth.
Our CSR Committee members inaugurated the program with the belief that empowerment is not an event—it is a journey. Through Project SAHYOG, we aim to help women:
- Build practical skills
- Earn a sustainable livelihood
- Strengthen their identity and confidence
- Become role models for other women from different villages
The enthusiasm among the participants is unmistakable. Many see this as their first step toward financial independence, while others view it as a chance to contribute meaningfully to their families and community.
Living Our Values Beyond the Terminal
At GTI, our values – humbleness, constant care, uprightness guide every decision we make. Project SAHYOG is a reflection of these values in action. It is more than a training program—it is a platform for women to discover their potential and build a future they can proudly call their own.
This initiative marks another step in our ongoing commitment to responsible, community‑focused growth. By supporting women who are ready to lead, learn, and transform their lives, we are helping build stronger, more resilient communities around our port.
When women lead, progress follows. And at GTI, we are proud to be part of that journey.
