APM Terminals Pecém registers highest container volume in 22 years

In October, the terminal handled 70,456 TEUs, driven by fruit exports to Europe, growth in cabotage, and increased volumes to the United States

APM Terminals Pecém (CE) reached a historic milestone in October, handling 70,456 TEUs – the highest monthly volume in its 22 years of operation. This result represents a 34.3% increase compared to October 2024, when 52,465 TEUs were registered. With this record, the terminal has also surpassed the total volume moved throughout 2024 (555,350 TEUs) and has already reached 562,541 TEUs accumulated in 2025, with two months still remaining in the year.

Reefer cargo volumes recorded significant growth, particularly on the route serving the United States, which increased by 54% compared to the previous year, .surpassing the total volume ever destined for Europe. The route connecting Pecém to Northern Europe also grew by 39%. Cabotage at Pecém maintained strong performance as well, with a 15% increase over the year.

APM Terminals Pecém has reinforced its position in 2025 as a hub for Brazil’s Northeast and North regions, connecting long-haul services with cabotage services for feedering. This was especially driven by the expansion of MSC’s Santana service, which brings cargo from Asia for transshipment in Pecém, primarily bound for Manaus. This service and its connected feeders are expected to account for approximately 50,000 additional moves by year-end compared to the total registered in the previous year.

APM Terminals has been expanding Ceará’s presence on major international trade routes, positioning the state as a growing logistics hub. This record reflects our commitment to operating with greater efficiency, safety, and sustainability. It is the result of continuous modernization and, above all, the dedication of a committed team that makes the terminal happen every day,” said Daniel Rose, Managing Director of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém.

In addition to its direct impact on foreign trade, the increase in operations has boosted job creation in the region, generating opportunities in warehousing, transport, port services, and integrated logistics.

“Surpassing in October the total volume handled in the previous year is more than a record — it demonstrates that the Port of Pecém is consolidating itself as a new connection hub between Brazil and the world. This result reflects the strength of a committed team, the success of strategic partnerships, and a forward-looking vision that guides every investment in the Pecém Complex. Day by day, we are building a more modern, competitive port that is essential to the development of Ceará and of the country,” said Max Quintino, President of the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex.
