APM Terminals Pecém breaks performance record

APM Terminals Pecém, located in the state of Ceará, achieved historic levels of performance in the first half of 2025, reinforcing its role as one of Brazil’s key logistics hubs. From January to June, the terminal handled 325,478 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), representing a 38% increase over the 235,148 TEUs handled during the same period in 2024.

In addition to strengthening Ceará’s position in Brazil’s port sector, this growth underscores the terminal’s strategic role in the local production chain. Ceará’s industrial sector leads national growth with a 9.2% increase in Q1 2025, according to Brazil’s Monthly Industrial Survey (PIM/IBGE).

“This milestone not only highlights the potential of APM Terminals Pecém but also reflects our continued investment strategy, which is focused on infrastructure, capacity expansion and technology adoption. These pillars are essential to meet rising demand and to strengthen the logistics landscape in the Northeast region, connecting Brazil to the world via the new direct maritime route to Asia,” said Daniel Rose, CEO of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém.

During the same period, overall port throughput also saw significant growth, reaching 6.67 million tons — a 12.4% increase compared to the first half of the previous year.

Contract Renewal and Investment Plan

APM Terminals Pecém has had its operating license renewed until 2049, securing continuity of operations at the Port of Pecém for an additional 15 years starting in 2034. The company also announced an investment plan of BRL 200 million over the coming years, focused on modernization, capacity expansion and emissions reduction.

“Terminal expansion is expected to be completed by 2029, including the construction of a new 350-meter berth, which will increase the container quay from 600 to 800 linear meters,” added Daniel Rose. With this expansion, the terminal aims to increase its annual handling capacity from 650,000 to 850,000 TEUs.
