Young People Explore Kolkheti National Park Through Eco-Camp Supported by APM Terminals Poti

A three-day eco-camp for young people was held in Kolkheti National Park, organised by Dioskuria with the support of APM Terminals Poti.

The camp aimed to raise environmental awareness among young people, deepen their understanding of nature conservation, and allow them to learn, explore and gain new experiences in a unique natural environment.

Throughout the three days, participants discovered the rich biodiversity and diverse ecosystems of Kolkheti National Park. They learned about birdwatching techniques and took part in bird migration monitoring. The programme also included meetings with environmental and nature experts, who introduced participants to the ecological importance of the park and the need to protect its unique ecosystems.

For the young participants, the camp was not only an opportunity to learn about nature, but also a chance to discover new interests, build friendships, and develop important personal skills.

“My most important discovery during the camp was discovering myself. I realised how much I enjoy making new friends, taking part in activities and being at camps. I was happiest here. One of the best experiences was putting up the tents and spending the whole day in nature with the other children,” said camp participant Giorgi Mikhailov.

Understanding the international importance of Kolkheti National Park was another important part of the experience. For participant Sosana Parulava, one of the most interesting aspects was learning why the park is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

“The most important thing for me was realising that we have nature that is unique in the world and that we need to take care of it so that future generations can also experience and appreciate it. It is also important to understand that Kolkheti National Park is home to many living species, and protecting it is essential for their survival,” Sosana said.

The camp also left a strong impression on Anastasia Khachidze, who described the three days as being filled with discoveries and memorable experiences.

“The whole camp was full of discoveries and new experiences. But my biggest discovery was the children I met, as well as all the new information we received during the lectures. Most importantly, I developed my communication and leadership skills, which I believe are very important. What I remember most was our trip on Lake Paliastomi, where I had the opportunity to experience its unique natural environment and observe birds,” Anastasia said.

For APM Terminals Poti, supporting youth education and environmental awareness is one of its key community engagement priorities. By supporting initiatives such as this eco-camp, the company contributes to creating meaningful learning opportunities for young people while helping foster the knowledge, skills and values needed to encourage responsible stewardship of the environment for generations to come.
