APM Terminals Poti delivers strong nine-month growth with higher container, general cargo, and ferry volumes
APM Terminals Poti has released its operational results for the first nine months of 2026, demonstrating continued growth across container, general cargo, and ferry operations.
The strong performance reflects the terminal’s commitment to providing reliable, efficient, and safe port services while supporting Georgia’s role as a strategic gateway connecting regional and global supply chains.
Key operational highlights (January-September 2026)
Container throughput reached 525,211 TEU, representing a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The terminal recorded its highest monthly volume in July, handling 65,759 TEU.
The number of container vessel calls also increased significantly. During the first nine months of the year, APM Terminals Poti welcomed 336 container vessels, up from 268 vessels during the same period in 2025. In September alone, the terminal handled 45 container vessel calls.
General cargo volumes recorded particularly strong growth, reaching 324,656 tonnes, a 61.7% increase compared to the previous year. Growth was also seen in ferry operations, with ferry cargo volumes totaling 162,843 tonnes during the reporting period, compared to 123,350 tonnes in the first nine months of 2025.
“These results reflect the resilience of regional trade flows, the trust of our customers, and the dedication of our people. As Georgia’s largest seaport, we remain focused on delivering safe, reliable and efficient operations while continuously investing in our infrastructure and capabilities. By strengthening connectivity and supporting growing trade volumes, we continue to play an important role in enabling economic development and facilitating international commerce across the region,” - states Akhan Akhanov, Chief Commercial Officer at APM Terminals Poti.
To support continued cargo growth and meet increasing customer demand, APM Terminals Poti is strengthening its capacity and operational flexibility through the acquisition of a new multipurpose mobile harbour crane. The investment will support growing cargo volumes and the terminal’s expanding role as a key trade gateway connecting the Caucasus and Central Asia with global markets. Scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026, the new crane will increase the port’s container handling capacity to more than 650,000 TEU and enhance handling capacity for both containerised and non-containerised cargo by approximately 500,000 metric tonnes.
