Rijeka Gateway strengthens ties with the local community
Rijeka Gateway continues to actively contribute to the life of the local community through concrete collaborations and activities aimed at connecting the terminal with people of all generations. The terminal focuses on strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders in the local community and creating positive experiences through dialogue, education and engagement.
Rijeka's Art Quarter – Art-kvart – is located in the immediate vicinity of the soon-to-open container terminal. This vibrant neighborhood is home to the Rijeka City Library, the Children's House and numerous other cultural institutions. This part of the city is evolving into a contemporary hub of knowledge exchange and creativity, making it a natural space for community engagement and the development of projects such as Rijeka Gateway.
Community-building is child's play
One of the summer activities that captured public attention is an escape room for children, held at the Children’s House under the title “Grumpy Kile and the Locked Container: The Search for the Missing Comics.” Through this interactive game, children learn about container transport and the world of logistics in a fun, team-oriented way. The game has already been tested by children of Rijeka Gateway employees.
As part of the collaboration, an educational lecture was also held for the interested public. More than thirty participants attentively followed the presentation on the project's development phases, modern equipment, the terminal’s role in global logistics flows, and its importance for the economic development of the city and region. The discussion also touched on the revitalization of industrial heritage and the terminal’s role in shaping Rijeka’s new urban identity. Participants raised numerous questions — ranging from concerns about environmental impact to specific professional topics in the fields of logistics and transport.
Bringing ideas to life
Particular interest was also sparked by the presentation of a 3D model of the Port of Rijeka, created as part of the “Sea Quarter” – Morski-kvart – project, an educational program focused on the Rijeka sea and port. The model was designed and produced by high school students using 3D printing technology, under expert mentorship. During four workshops, participants explored the future of the port through a blend of urban planning and modern technology, developing ideas and models that combine creativity and functionality.
All of these activities are the result of a signed cooperation agreement between Rijeka Gateway and the Rijeka City Library, which formalized a shared interest in implementing educational and cultural programs within the local community. Through this collaboration, the aim is to further strengthen the project's presence in public spaces, ensure access to information and build trust with neighbors through openness and involvement.
Rijeka Gateway remains committed to initiatives that enhance public awareness, strengthen community relations and contribute to the development of Rijeka as a modern, open and connected port.
