Effective April 22nd 2024, MSC is collecting demurrage for their Ocean Carrier portion directly from their customers. The Terminal demurrage portion is separate and will be visible/payable on PayCargo. When line demurrage is owed, containers will have line holds present and customers will need to satisfy the charges directly with MSC. APM Terminals seeks to continuously to improve our safety performance, we evaluate our performance and set challenging goals on an annual basis.
We set a number of key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure safety performance, both in terms of personal safety – the safety of our employees and any other people who could be affected by our activities – and in terms of the safe design, operation and maintenance of our facilities.
Access to APM Terminals Los Angeles requires an authorization pass QR code to be shown at TWIC check. Drivers, contractors and visitors to APM Terminals Los Angeles must complete our Safety Induction Quiz to access the QR code. This will ensure you are familiar with the APM Terminals safety policies in advance which should improve safety awareness and reduce potential violations.

Any driver entering the terminal will have to demonstrate that they are familiar with the safety regulations and terminal rules. A trucker safety video is provided below. We ask that you take some time to watch the video, prior to entering our facility for the first time. For new drivers entering the terminal for the first time accompanied by an instructor, please complete a training drivers access form.

•Stay INSIDE truck cab unless in an approved, designated area. See driver safety video above.
•Unlock pins in protected truck exchange lanes when dropping off a container and upon Import delivery completion.
•Wear seat belts while operating vehicle.
•Wear a high-visibility, reflective vest.
•Check-in with security upon arrival.
•Have a valid TWIC.
•Not use a cell phone use while driving.
•Not walk or drive between container stacks or rows.
•Drive on the highline (dock) or road nearest to the dock where the vessel is working.
•Not enter rail section of the terminal
•Drop off and pick up all chassis from the chassis exchange area.
•Comply with all traffic signs and terminal security instructions.
•Drive no more than 15 mph.
•Not drive behind a Top Handler working in container stack/rows, or any other blind spots.
•Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, no tailgating.
•Come to a complete stop at all posted and painted stop signs.
•Only use designated restrooms.
•Not have any unauthorized passengers (passengers must meet facility ID requirements) or pets/animals.
•Not take photographs, or videos, of any kind, without the express written consent of APM Terminals.
•Not carry any weapons, even if you have a concealed weapon permit.
•Understand they are subject to random screening of their vehicle and contents.
•Report any accidents, or injuries, to APM Terminals management immediately.
•Pick the wrong chassis size for a Modernized Facility transaction.
•ALWAYS unlock pins for a Modernized Facility transaction.
•Not Press the E-stop button for anything other than an emergency.
Drivers found in violation of any rules may be banned and fined $750 and required to attend S.T.E.P. class (Safety Trucker Education Program). See 'Breaches of Safety' below.

- Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, no tailgating
- Must come to a complete stop at all posted and painted stop signs
- Only use designated restrooms
- No unauthorized passengers (passengers must meet facility ID requirements) or pets/animals
- No photography of any kind, without the express written consent of APM Terminals
- No weapons are authorized on the facility, even if you have a concealed weapon permit
- Must have your valid TWIC and Facility ID to enter and remain on the facility
- Are subject to random screening of your vehicle and contents
- Must comply with all requests given by terminal security personnel
- Report any accidents or injuries to APM Terminals management immediately
We take safety very seriously. Truck drivers who do not comply with our safety requirements and terminal rules (such as miss-parking a chassis) will be banned from the terminal and asked to pay a fine of up to $1,000 for repeat offenses. Before being allowed back into the terminal you will be asked to attend a Safety Trucker Education Program (S.T.E.P.) class in person at APM Terminals Los Angeles.

- Class Dates/Time: Every Friday starting April 22 from 3:00 to 3:30 pm
- No prior registration is required to attend this class.
Estudio Cactus application has two purposes. (1) it is software intended to record attendance of safety training for outside truckers (2) record attendance of visitors to Pier 400.
The application can be downloaded to a mobile phone from the app store.
It is mandatory.
The application is mandatory so that Pier 400’s trucking community can be trained on the safety requirements of Pier 400 with the intent of providing a safe experience for the trucking community at Pier 400.
Truckers who do not download the application and take the training risk being turned away from Pier 400.
The visitor HSSE application provides the trucker a brief training event that reviews the minimum safety expectations of the terminal. The Application also has a map of the terminal. The user guide goes into detail of all the application’s features.
The application has the ability to identify truckers on the terminal. Truckers have the option to turn on or off this feature. There are no plans at this time to use this feature.

Pier 400 is the only terminal with this application.
If you are locked out of the system or forgot your password, the login page has a “forgot your password” feature. Click on that to reset your password.
The system can only assign a trucker to one location. If the trucker services both Pier 400 in Los Angeles and Port Elizabeth in New Jersey, that trucker should be referred to management.
No. The app is driver-specific. Each driver should have their own account.
