Expanding Grid 5 to improve flow and service for trucking companies

APM Terminals Aarhus has expanded Grid 5, one of our two primary grids used for handling delivery and pick-up of full containers. The area has previously had eight lanes, and with the addition of five new lanes, Grid 5 will now offer 13 lanes in total. Combined with the 14 lanes in Grid 1, we will have 27 dedicated lanes for serving trucks carrying full containers.

The expansion is a natural part of our ongoing investments in capacity, efficiency and service. As truck volumes continue to grow, it is important to us that trucking companies and drivers experience a smooth, predictable and efficient visit at the terminal. By increasing the number of lanes, we create more room to operate, fewer bottlenecks during busy periods and a more consistent flow to and from Grid 5.

For trucking companies, this specifically means:

  • More available lanes, especially during peak hours
  • A more stable and efficient flow when delivering or picking up full containers
  • The potential for slightly faster Truck Turnaround Times (TTT) in periods where capacity previously could become tight
  • A more predictable experience, supporting the daily planning of both dispatchers and drivers

Strengthening the truck experience through increased capacity

Our goal is always to make the truck experience as smooth and efficient as possible,” says Mikael Riis, Customer Care Manager at APM Terminals Aarhus. “By adding five new lanes to Grid 5, we are increasing the capacity where it matters most for our trucking partners. This helps reduce waiting time during peak periods and gives drivers a more predictable and stable flow through the terminal. Ultimately, it’s about supporting our customers’ planning and helping them deliver reliably to their end customers.

Our partnerships with trucking companies and drivers are essential to the service we jointly deliver to our shared customers every day. We value the strong collaboration we have and see this expansion as another step supporting that partnership.

We are monitoring performance closely and welcome feedback from both drivers and trucking companies as they begin using the expanded Grid 5.
