Children enjoyed Environmental Rally at Moin Beach with games, learning, and ecological awareness
• The event brought together more than 250 people.
• The activity showed that it is possible to combine celebration with education.
The community of Moin experienced a different celebration with a purpose for the enjoyment of the children of Limon. Instead of the traditional Children's Day party, more than 100 children and young people participated in the Environmental/Social Rally held at Moin beach, where they learned about caring for the environment while enjoying a recreational and educational day, promoted by the Moin Container Terminal (MCT).
In total, the event brought together more than 250 people, including families, volunteers, and representatives from public and private institutions who joined the organization. The atmosphere was marked by the joy of the little ones and the community's commitment to conservation and environmental education.
A different kind of celebration
The Environmental Rally was conceived as an alternative to traditional celebrations, seeking to offer a more enriching experience. During the tour, children participated in themed stations on creative recycling, water conservation, and sea turtle protection, where they completed activities, games, and challenges that allowed them to learn in a fun way.
“At MCT, we believe that raising awareness from an early age is where change begins. We wanted children to experience more than just a party: we wanted them to have a participatory and transformative experience. The day was an opportunity for them to connect with their environment, reinforce team values, and discover the importance of caring for natural resources,” said Krizia Canton, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator at APM Terminals Moin.
Each station was designed for different age ranges, ensuring the inclusion of children from 4 to 17 years old. At the end, everyone received a commemorative kit consisting of a Jenga game, a bag, a T-shirt, a book, crayons, and a medal, as well as snacks, drinks, and lunch for both participants and volunteers. The event also offered complementary activities such as face painting, raffles, and recreational spaces, making it a place for community interaction. The initiative was inspired by a similar model carried out in Cahuita in previous years by Turtle Rescue Cahuita, an organization that also promotes conservation projects in Moin.
“This rally confirmed that it is possible to celebrate Children's Day in a meaningful way, combining fun with lasting learning experiences. We want this activity to become an annual tradition for the Limon community,” added Canton.
Partnerships for greater impact
The success of the event was made possible thanks to the support of the Municipality of Limon, the University of Costa Rica, Caribbean Campus, and a network of strategic partners that included Decorando una Ilusion by Josue Canales, Sociedad Civil ODS, Costa Rica Fire Department, National Coast Guard, Public Force, EBI, Ministry of Health, SINAC, Activo 20-30 Limon, Brigadistas del Caribe, and RECOPE.
This coordinated effort not only ensured the safety and success of the event but also strengthened the community's sense of belonging and commitment to preserving the natural environment.
At the end of the Environmental Rally, the children took home more than just prizes; they gained greater environmental awareness, reinforced their teamwork skills, and enjoyed a safe recreational space. The activity demonstrated that it is possible to combine celebration with education, planting the seed of respect and care for the environment in each participant.
MCT intends to continue promoting this experience in the coming years, consolidating it as a meaningful celebration that, in addition to honoring children, contributes to strengthening an environmental culture in the province of Limon.
