TCM promotes education in Limón with projects that strengthen learning and school sustainability
- Donations are part of the global GO GREEN initiative.
- Projects are directly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Moín Container Terminal (TCM) continues to reinforce its commitment to educational development in Limón through initiatives that directly support schools in the province. These efforts include programmes focused on sustainability, basic infrastructure and pedagogical support aimed at improving the conditions in which hundreds of children study every day.
School Garden “La Bendición”
One of the most significant efforts takes place at the Limón 2000 Educational Centre, where TCM has supported the growth of the school garden “La Bendición” for several years. This space has become a living classroom for more than 500 students.
The project is part of the company’s internal initiative that promotes hands-on learning about agriculture with reduced environmental impact, nutrition and environmental care. Since its creation, it has enabled teachers and students to gain practical knowledge about crop cycles, composting, responsible water management and healthy eating.
This year, the terminal strengthened its support by providing essential supplies such as fertilised soil, barrels and anti-aphid mesh, materials that help maintain and expand the garden. Thanks to these contributions, the school expects an outstanding harvest as a result of collective work and technical guidance.
The school garden is an essential support for student nutrition, allowing fresh, locally grown products to be included in school meals. Beyond its nutritional contribution, this space serves as a living educational tool where children learn about the origin of food, the importance of a balanced diet and the value of teamwork.
“For TCM, supporting education in Limón is a direct investment in the province’s future. Every project we promote aims to create real opportunities for children to learn, grow and develop in more dignified environments. This school garden demonstrates that sustainability is also taught. When students plant, harvest and consume their own food, they gain practical understanding of the value of the environment and responsible nutrition,” said Krizia Canton, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator at APM Terminals Moín.
The project is directly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to quality education, responsible production and climate action, reinforcing the vision that sustainability is learned from childhood.
Support for schools without proper infrastructure
In addition to its work in school sustainability, APM Terminals actively supports other institutions in Limón that face challenging educational conditions.
In the community of Villa del Mar, the company donated school furniture to improve the learning environment in classrooms currently operating in improvised spaces. With the donation of individual desks, students now have a more organised, safe and dignified setting while the community continues to seek a permanent infrastructure solution.
In Barrio Limoncito, another significant action was the delivery of sports and educational materials that promote physical activity, creativity and student participation. These supplies – including balls, cones, hula hoops, skipping ropes, mats, paper, crayons and paints – allow teachers to expand classroom dynamics and create experiences that foster holistic student development.
“We firmly believe that strengthened education is the foundation for the development of any community. That is why we will continue promoting initiatives that enable every student in Limón to find better learning opportunities,” added Canton.
The actions carried out by TCM reflect a clear vision that education in Limón is strengthened when companies, communities and schools work together. The terminal’s approach goes beyond its logistics operations and recognises that its presence in the province must generate a positive social impact.
Moín Container Terminal remains open to collaborating with educational institutions in Limón, supporting projects that foster meaningful learning and promoting school environments that inspire future generations in the province.
