Rijeka Gateway Wins IPMA Award for Best Mega Project
Last week, the 11th Project Management Awards ceremony was held at the Esplanade Zagreb Hotel, organised by IPMA Hrvatska – the Croatian Association for Project Management. IPMA Hrvatska is a non-profit association that promotes professionalism, knowledge, and competencies in the field of project management in Croatia and is a member of the international IPMA organisation, which operates in more than 70 countries.
The Rijeka Gateway project won the award for Best Mega Project in the category of projects valued at over €200 million. A special recognition for project leadership was awarded to Koen Benders and Mladen Jurčević, acknowledging their expertise, dedication, and responsibility in leading one of the most complex infrastructure projects in the region.
On the occasion of receiving the award, Koen Benders, Project Director, stated: “I am proud that we have received this award for the successful delivery of the project. It represents the culmination of the dedicated work of the Rijeka Gateway project team, as well as all our contractors and suppliers.”
To recall, Rijeka Gateway is the largest private investment in the logistics sector in the Republic of Croatia, valued at more than €200 million in the first phase, with an additional €180 million planned for the second phase of the project. The project included the construction of a container terminal from the ground up, along with extensive infrastructure works. A special segment of the project was the reconstruction of Warehouse 22, part of the protected Metropolis warehouse complex dating back to the early 20th century, which today serves as the administrative building of the Rijeka Gateway terminal.
